Meet the World through Film and Food

Screen with No Borders brings together communities in Sussex and beyond to connect, engage and immerse themselves in the stories, people, landscapes and cultures of Global Majority countries. We create nourishing evenings with film, food and open conversations to explore themes such as justice, migration, love, memory and identity, through a shared curiosity for our rich and diverse world.

Screen with No Border’s ‘Palestine on film’ season:

In collaboration with The London Palestine Film Festival, Screen with No Borders is thrilled to show one of the titles of the 2026 festival programme:
Land of Canaan (Maggie Lemere, 2026)

When Dr. Nasser Abufarha, a Palestinian American entrepreneur, returns to the occupied West Bank and finds the olive harvest in crisis, he leads a movement to preserve an ecosystem and thousands of years of ecological knowledge, helping to build one of Palestine's most influential fair-trade networks.

American filmmaker and storyteller Maggie Lamere’s feature documentary follows the lives of and relationships between the Palestinian farmers and their thousands-of-years-old olive trees and is a mesmerising cinematic meditation on agriculture as form of resistance. In the midst of a genocide and ecocide, where Palestinian land, culture, and livelihood face erasure, Land of Canaan documents a way of life and a road to a future, showing us what is at stake, and why it must be protected.

In the spirit of honouring the land and the environment, join us for a hearty bowl of Palestinian food.

Food is served by Soraya at Taarof, a local chef and caterer who uses her mixed heritage food as a conduit for bringing people together to create a culturally enriched community.
