Match Preview: Worthing FC Women vs Brentford FC Women

Riding on the high of three successive home victories, which left the Rebels unbeaten for the entire month of September, Jesus Cordon’s side will reach the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup for a third consecutive season should they overcome their league rivals this weekend.

It will be the second of at least three meetings with Brentford this season, after Worthing lost to Sunday’s opponents in the opening home fixture of the 2026/27 L&SE Regional Women’s League in late August.

Team News

Amber Hazlewood will be unavailable for the time being after sustaining an ankle injury against Leatherhead a fortnight ago.

Sophie Rose and Sofia Harding also continue to be sidelined with injuries. Laura Huish is back training lightly with the squad, but is yet to fully return from a long-term injury.

The Opposition

Brentford Women are a club on the rise, and have doubled down on that statement with their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Crowned champions of the sixth tier in 2025, the West London outfit ended their first year in step five with a 3rd-placed finish, narrowly missing out on promotion despite losing just three of their 22 L&SE fixtures.

WFA Cup-wise, the Bees were eliminated in the first round proper 12 months ago, losing on penalties to Sutton United.

Like the Rebels, Brentford entered the cup in the second qualifying round, which was played a fortnight ago. Comfortably brushing aside fellow step five competitors Dorking Wanderers by a scoreline of 4-0.

The Gaffer

Carly Williams swapped North London for the West in August 2025, drafted in at the beginning of Brentford’s new chapter post-promotion from Arsenal Women.

Stepping up to replace long-term servant of the club, Karleigh Osbourne, her experience developing some of England’s finest young stars at the Gunners was an attractive factor behind her appointment, along with her role as a coach and mentor at the FA.

One to Watch

Ashley Cheatley became a Bee two years ago now, and has already scored over 60 goals for the club.

Previously of Ashford Town, she helped Brentford achieve promotion before going on to pick up a nomination for the 2025 Marta Award for her goal against Ascot United in a WFA Cup bout.

The 31-year-old scored four goals against Newhaven just last weekend, making it 12 goals in seven games since the season kicked off in August.
