A brace from teenage sensation Cory Adjetey-Brew stole the headlines, with Razzaq Coleman De-Graft, Ricky Aguiar and Dom Hutchinson also scoring in stunning style as the hosts tore their opposition apart on home soil.
The starting line-up had a familiar feel to it with Aguiar, Jayden Moore and Jack Wadham returning to the first eleven after a break during the midweek win in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup. However, the bench was provided with a massive boost with the return of forwards Dom Hutchinson and Ashley Nathaniel-George following the completion of their international duty with Turks and Caicos Islands and Antigua and Barbuda respectively.
Despite the contrasting form and league positions of the two sides, the first half of the first period was edged by Chris Millington’s Moors.
Seymour was called into action to thwart Jacob Wakeling early on, before Joe Sbarra sent an effort wide of the mark from 12 yards out to keep the scores level.
The deadlock was broken just shy of the half hour mark and from that moment on it was truly one-way traffic. Fresh off scoring on Tuesday night against Three Bridges, Jordan Young was the architect this time as he created his first of three first-half assists.
Showing great endeavour to carve space down the right flank, the elegant winger drove an accurate cross towards the middle which was met by the advanced Adjetey-Brew.
A defender by trade, the Queens Park Rangers loanee turned adeptly before slamming a weak-footed finish past Max Metcalfe and into the top corner to give his side the lead.
Another attacking Reds wave kept coming and it wasn’t long before Metcalfe’s net was breached again. Loose and careless possession from the visitors presented Young with the ball in the final third, with the Englishman feeding Coleman De-Graft. Cutting inside onto his left foot, Worthing’s top scorer this season deceived the goalkeeper by disguising a curling shot into the far corner as a drilled effort towards the near post, leaving the Moors Number One flat-footed and helpless as the ball travelled beyond him and into the back of the net.
A sixth league goal of the campaign for the 28-year-old, who has acclimatised to fifth-tier football in superb fashion.
Minutes later, Charley Kendall had a golden opportunity to open his account in a Red shirt and extend the hosts’ advantage. In typical fashion, the striker made a nuisance of himself inside the area, but a heavy touch caused him to stretch on the eventual finish. As a result, his attempt on his weaker side didn’t curl as required and soared narrowly off target from close-range.
Adam Hinshelwood’s outfit weren’t satisfied with their two-goal cushion and scored a third before the half was up with a move straight off the training ground.
After a trademark Aguiar strike from distance bounced in front of Metcalfe and was pushed onto the upright, the attacking midfielder made sure his next attempt was unreachable. An excellently-executed corner saw Young pick out Aguiar on the edge of the box and the skillful talent managed to keep his powerfully-struck pile-driver low. After moving through a crowd of players without taking a deflection, the unsighted Metcalfe couldn’t react in time and Worthing had a picturesque third before the break.
Similarly to the first period, the visitors imposed themselves smartly in the opening stages of the second half, but Seymour was equal to multiple attempts from tight angles from substitute Ben Wodskou.
Captain Joel Colbran almost marked the news of his contract extension with his first goal of the season ten minutes after the restart, but his connection with Charlie Waller’s searching delivery failed to trouble Nathan Ford in net, another half-time alteration from the Moors.
With 20 minutes to go, the score was put beyond all reasonable doubt by the Rebels, with Adjetey-Brew doubling his tally for the afternoon.
Immediately flung straight into action, the newly-introduced Hutchinson was picked out by Coleman De-Graft 18 yards out and the returning attacker’s shot tested Ford. The goalkeeper could only push the ball straight into Adjetey-Brew’s path, who acted as a poacher to smash home on the rebound before wheeling away to celebrate in front of a jubilant Woodside crowd.
Coleman De-Graft and Joe Cook both tried to add gloss to the scoreline in the final minutes of the 90, but it would be Hutchinson that added the icing to the result in stoppage-time.
Dancing his way through several defenders, the Turks and Caicos international finished an incredible solo run with an audacious toe-poke through the legs of Ford to convert a fifth for Worthing and secure another important victory, a result that saw the Reds increase their unbeaten run to 10 matches in all competitions.
Another three points cements Worthing’s position inside the play-off positions heading into a fortnight’s break with the Rebels embarking on their FA Cup campaign with a Fourth Round Qualifying tie to savour away to Wealdstone next weekend.
