Emerging through the ranks in Gloucestershire, Marquez has been on the books at his parent club since the age of 13.
Over the last few years, the striker’s development has been aided by a series of loans which have progressively increased in intensity and level.
Initial loans at Swindon Supermarine and Hungerford Town was followed by a stint at Alvechurch at the start of last season. While at the latter, he netted a hat-trick in the Emirates FA Cup away to Leamington, which convinced Robbie Savage to recall the youngster. Marquez then impressed in the National League Cup with goals against West Bromwich Albion U21s and Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s, attracting the attention of National League South outfit Dorking Wanderers.
It was a short yet sweet spell at Meadowbank for the then teenager, as he scored three goals in just four appearances for the Wanderers. The 6’0 frontman netted in wins over Salisbury and Enfield Town and scored a late consolation in the 2-1 defeat away to Chesham United in late November.
Another recall was exercised by Forest Green Rovers before Marquez suffered a significant injury, ruling him out for a few months. He returned in time to appear four times for the Greens as they finished inside the play-off places.
Our newest Red has signed in time to be in contention for selection for our National League opener away to Carlisle United this weekend. Following Brad Dolaghan’s departure to Harrogate Town earlier on during the week, Marquez has succeeded the forward as our new number 21.
