UnWrapped

This week's 'Unwrapped' is a look under the bonnet of local plasterer and decorator Bo Pearcey-Taggart.

Bo has rescued a few dodgy situations at our house, from bad plaster work to fixing damp damage on recently plastered and decorated walls. He is our absolute go-to guy; skilled, hard-working and a complete bundle of fun. We loved hearing Bo's outlook shine through in this interview - you can tell what a cheerful and all-round good soul he is! Plus - Bo is one of Independent Worthing's business members and you can get an exclusive discount with him if you are an Independent Worthing subscriber! IW: Give us an elevator pitch for your business

BP-T: Hi I am Bo, director of Pearcey-Taggart Ltd. A small plastering and decorating company based in Worthing. Working throughout the county of Sussex, I concentrate on plastering, rendering, painting, and decorating works. Taking on both interior and exterior works.

IW: What is your favourite thing about Worthing?

BP-T: Proximity to beach and South Downs

IW: Describe your favourite type of day

BP-T: Trail run in the morning, tinkering on car in the afternoon, cocktails, and dinner with the missus in the evening

IW: Name one thing on your bucket list

BP-T: Run Lands’ End to John O’Groats

IW: What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?

BP-T: Not sure about a presentation, but I could talk for hours on Ultra-marathons or my Audi TT.

IW: What are you really bad at?

BP-T: Usually things I don’t want to do! Remembering to do household chores...

IW: What is your go-to local independent business and why? Go on, you can have more than one if you like

BP-T: Brookstead, Cornerhouse, The Grizzly Bear for drinks, brilliant service, and great atmosphere. Dipsticks Garage for anything car related, friendly, reliable service, Martin really knows his stuff. Pet Emporium, great prices and excellent service.

IW: What is something you are really looking forward to?

BP-T: My LeJog run in 2023. Any evening or time away with my wife, life is so busy, and those times mean everything.

IW: What does your perfect breakfast look like?

BP-T: Granola and yoghurt, followed by (veggie) sausage and egg muffin. In bed.

IW: What do you buy loads more of than other people, and why?

BP-T: Car parts. Always work needing doing on the TT. Tattoos, quite frankly I look ridiculous!

IW: Name a favourite album, film, book or TV show and tell us what it does for you album:

BP-T: ALBUM: Apart Together by Tim Minchin, best lyricist ever...Film: Holy Grail or Life of Brian, timeless, hilarious, classic...Book: A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon...TV Show: Only Fools & Horses, it’s just perfect.

IW: Which season is your favourite – explain

BP-T: Summer, can’t beat a cloudless blue sky, calm sea and warm weather.

IW: If you weren’t living in Worthing, where would you be living?

BP-T: Probably Mid-Sussex, have family that way.

IW: What inspired you to start your own business?

BP-T: My dad taught me. And I followed in his footsteps.

IW: What is the best thing about what you do?

BP-T: Deciding my own work life balance.

IW: What pearl of wisdom would you impart to anyone wanting to set up their own business?

BP-T: Don’t stress, stick to your beliefs. NOTHING beats hard work.

IW: What do you get up to in your spare time?

BP-T: Running, tinkering with my car, spending time with wife and kids.

IW: What’s your guilty pleasure?

BP-T: Murder docs

IW: What’s your favourite way to start the day?

BP-T: With a free day ahead

IW: If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things could you not do without?

BP-T: My wife, rum and coke!

IW: What plans do you have for the future?

BP-T: In an ideal world, buy our 1st home. Carry on working, learning, and improving. Continue enjoying life.
